Toilet Paper Cake

Anyone who knows me knows how much I hate covering a chocolate cake in white icing lol.

Well this cake is a roll of toilet paper, with poop cupcakes.

I use as little fondant as possible with all of my cakes because it is heavy, expensive (means the client has to pay more) and it tastes like crap. When clients send me photos of cakes that are covered in fondant I do my best to recreate them in icing and only using fondant as decals.

With this cake I learned I need to change my chocolate icing, I am not a huge fan of it. The client said everything was awesome but for me the chocolate icing needs to be different.

Because of the brain injury I can't remember what my chocolate icing recipe was before which means I have to play around until I get it just the way I want it. No, I didn't write it down, I never do because I always go by memory.

The sign is written in edible markers, the cupcakes have fondant faces.

Super Hero Cake

Last minute cake requests can be a pain in the butt and I don't always say yes but I was making a cake and cupcake order for the same weekend and its not really that much work to add another order when I am already working away in the kitchen anyway.

I made a GIANT oops with the cake, I don't know how I messed it up but I did. I put the name Carter on the cake and it was supposed to be Carson.

Well I decided about an hour before delivery to put the batman symbol on the top of the cake and I am very very glad I did.

I get to the bowling alley to deliver the cake and they can't find a child who is having a party there named Carter but there is one named Carson. I go out to the truck to check my phone for the name low and be hold yup, the child's name is Carson. DAMN IT!!!

Back to the kitchen staff I go to ask for a knife so I can remove the name on the cake (I did it out of fondant which I normally don't do, another stroke of luck I would say.) I got name off and smoothed out the icing so no one other than the kitchen staff would have any idea.

This cake order came with a cupcake order as well and each cupcake had tiny fondant toppers on them.

On another note, I still suck at Spiderman's head so Deadpool it was lol.

The cake is Vanilla, the cupcakes are chocolate. 6 of the cupcakes have vanilla icing and 6 have chocolate icing.

As most bakers know HUMIDITY sucks when it comes to fondant, that is why you will notice in my photos my fondant is shiny!

I totally rocked the hulk fists though!!!!

Little Bear Cake

Smash cake photos are so much fun and most little ones LOVE digging in and getting messy while enjoying some good cake.

Smash cake photos are a newer trend the past 7 years or so. I love doing the cakes for them.

I use my six inch cake pan and they are 4 layer cakes with homemade butter cream between each layer.

Normally I stay away from fondant on them because it can be a chocking hazard for little ones if they don't have a whole lot of teeth or they are not very good with chewing just yet.

This cake was made for a local photographer and she took some really amazing photos.

The photographer is Angela Sundby

Cake flavour is vanilla, buttercream is vanilla and the fondant is vanilla.  This cake was super simple as it was done with the star tip. I used a circle cutter for the ears and hand shaped the eyes and nose.

Else Cake

All weekend we planned and prepped for a sweet little ladies 5th birthday, cake, food, gifts, people and location were all ready.

We made treat bags, a ton of food, and got the perfect gift!

And I made a stunning cake and a great outfit to make her day perfect. Well in the end it was all for not because her mother decided the morning of the party that we couldn't have the girls. My heart broke for that little girl for a couple reasons. One because I knew her mother wouldn't throw her a party at all. Two because she didn't get to see her dad on his day because her mother was being selfish. I will never understand why a mother will use her children as pawns.

Anyway everything is edible on the cake expect for Elsa she is a toy

The cake is chocolate and four layers like all of cakes. It has homemade buttercream between each layer and covered homemade buttercream on the outside.

The trees and snow flakes are make out of fondant using a small flower fondant cutter. Olaf is made out of fondant as well.

The Sparkle you can kind of see on the top of the cake and trees is shaved fancy sugar.

Although she didn't get to enjoy her cake everyone else loved it!

Unicorn cake and cupcakes

I wanted to start doing a few cakes again because I missed creating edible delights for people but I didn't want to go all out like I did in the past, well first because I just can't physically, mentally or time wise. What I figured would be 1 or two a month this summer turned into one almost every weekend.

Of course I always do Jess's cakes for the kids and I love doing them. Mercedes cake and cupcakes turned out stunning, I surprised even myself that I was still capable of creating something that beautiful!

Here party of course was unicorn themed what else would a little girl want for a party!

I want I want I want...but for cheap

Reading posts looking for custom made cakes or anything for that matter but that want it cheap or "reasonably priced". Here is the thing, would you want your boss to say to you I want you to do this work but for $5.00 an hour because they feel its a "reasonable" price for your work. Would you do it? Would you find a new job? Would you feel devalued because you know your work is worth more?

Well this goes the same for those of us who create from home.

I did a cake and cupcakes for a friend this weekend so I didn't charge for it, but when people complain about prices, CUSTOM ISN'T CHEAP! If you want cheap go to Walmart.

What I would have charged for someone other than a friend 78 cupcakes and 6" cake is $130.00

How my costs break down and my time.

Cost to make 78 cupcakes and a 6" cake: $16.00
Time: 3 hours

Cost to make fondant for 78 cupcakes and a 6" cake: $10.00
Time: 4 hours

Cost to make the chocolate horns: $20.00
Time: 3 hours

Cost to Ice 78 cupcakes and a 10" cake: $34.00 (I use real butter)
Time: 4.5 hours

Hydro usage: $30.00

Total Cost: $110.00
Total Time: 14.5 hours

Which makes my time worth: $1.34 an hour........

What is your time worth?

Nella the Princess Knight Cake

Spending my birthday making cake for others is my norm but spending it sick is another thing altogether. Dizzy and can only stand for short periods of time makes decorating a cake rather difficult but I couldn't let a sweet little lady down so I did it. Not my best work but she was thrilled!!

I took 2 9*11 rectangle cakes (1 chocolate and 1 vanilla) and cut them into the shape I needed.

The icing took care of the rest.

mini baby shower cake

Why is that everything is cuter when it is mini. I had a last minute requesting, as in Thursday and they needed it for Saturday, it was just lucky I was in the middle of baking when they messaged me. They sent me a photo of a cake that would serve about 44 people and they only needed to serve 15 so I decided to make a mini version of the cake they wanted. It turned out super cute, now personally I wouldn't have covered it on fondant and would have gone with smooth coat buttercream but it wasn't my cake.

The top tier of the cake is chocolate with vanilla buttercream, the bottom is vanilla with vanilla buttercream. Both tiers are covered in vanilla fondant with fondant decals.
The topper and the little toys on the cake are non-edible.

This mini cake is 4" top and 6" bottom. The client and her guests loved it and thought it was the cutest thing ever as well.

Do you like mini things? Do you like fondant?

No bake strawberry shortcake cheesecake

YUM!!! Who doesn't love strawberry short cakes in the summer. It is one of my favorite desserts, so fresh and light. Sometimes you can just eat it too much and then want something similar but different. As I was doing weekly meal prep last week I decided to make my normal short cakes with a twist.

No bake strawberry shortcake cheesecake

(I am tweaking this recipe and when I do I will post an updated one)

1 brick of cream cheese beaten (room temperature is easier to beat)
1 can of whipped cream
1 angel food cake (I will never buy the store one again it sucked)
1 quart of strawberries cut up
9X9 glass baking pan

Beat the cream cheese in your mixer, while the cream cheese is beating, cut up the strawberries into small pieces and rip the angel food cake into chunks.
Add the whipped cream to the cream cheese and mix well.
Dump in your cut strawberries and mix well.
Put your chunks of angel food cake into your 9X9 pan.
Pour your cream cheese mixture over the angel food cake.
Refrigerate for 2 hours.

Enjoy!!!

This super easy recipe is great when you want something not too sweet or an in hurry companies coming.
What is your favorite summer time dessert?

3D Cheetah Cake

This cake was both fun to see come together and challenging to make. The cheetah is both air brushed and hand painted. His head was the most challenging for me. All in all I think he turned out very nice.

The cake flavour is peanut butter.

Ladybug Cake

Last minute cake orders never have really brothered me but, this one had me extremely stressed out. With this cake if it could go wrong it did go wrong. First off they ordered the cake 36 hours before they needed it. I bought a new contoured pan it came with no instructions. With the size of the pan I figured it needed double the cake mix, boy was I wrong! I had to bake it twice in order to get a usable cake. Then of course with the time frame that I had to work with the butter cream did not have proper time to set so the cake was not as smooth as I would like. Then as I am moving it onto the cake boards it slips and just about lands on the floor if it wasn't for good reflexes it would have been a mess on the floor instead of only having a figure indent, which of course was fixed. Personally I would have added flowers and leaves; however, the client said no flowers.

The head and body of the cake is marble flavour. The icing is butter cream and the accents are fondant.

Toy Cake

I am not sure what is with parents and leaving their children's birthday cake orders until the last minute. In my opinion as soon as the invites are sent out the cake should be ordered; however, in this case the person who was supposed to make the cake backed out on them. One persons loss is another persons gain and this time it was a gain for me. A close family friend phoned me and asked if I could put together a cake that had toys on it, vanilla and say Happy Birthday Mya on it. I am so happy when last minute orders are kept simple.
Last minute cakes never turn out how I want them to and with 22 hours to make this cake I think it turned out pretty good.

The cake is vanilla with vanilla butter cream.
Everything on this cake is edible!

All of the toys on top of the cake are made out of fondant.
Everyone was impressed with what I came up with in such a short period of time. My icing work is not as perfect as I would like it but with only 22 hours the cake didn't have enough time to crust.

Dale Earnhardt JR Cake

My moms boyfriend Dave is a Nascar fan. Personally I don't understand the point of Nascar watching cars go around and around is not my idea of a good time, but to each our own.

Dave is a huge Dale Earnhardt SR fan, by huge I mean he knows everything about the guy right down to what his wife did to the Earnhardt company after he died and why JR left that team.

Turns out my mother of all people asks me if I can make the cake 2 days before his birthday. Last minute cake orders I don't mind expect when I can't find anything in Sarnia that is Dale Earnhardt SR, not a single thing and there is even very limited things that are even JR.

We ended up having to do that cake as Dale Earnhardt JR. The cake turned out pretty good for only 48 hours notice. Everyone enjoyed it!

This cake is half vanilla, half chocolate. The vanilla half had strawberry buttercream as filling. The chocolate half had chocolate buttercream as filling. The outside was done in vanilla buttercream with fondant accents. The only thing on this cake that is non-edible is the car.

Twin Mash up cake

Two of my favourite twin boys just turned 4 and I had the honor of making their birthday cake. The boys both love Spiderman and Monster trucks, what little boys don't.

Their mom couldn't decide on which one to do, so I suggest that I make both. She was unsure about how it would look in the end, but said go ahead anyway :).

I love how they turned out and so did everyone including the boys.

The top tier was vanilla and the bottom was chocolate.

They all said the cake tasted amazing! I love seeing the smiles and moment of happiness that our cakes can bring!

Monkey Cake

I had fun making the monkeys out of fondant for this cake!

The top tier of this cake is vanilla and bottom is chocolate.

Everything on this cake is edible!

I love feed back good or bad from clients and from this one we got "The best cake we have ever had!!!"

Finding Nemo Cake

We get many of our orders via our Facebook page. A lady asked to make a Finding Nemo cake with Dory and Nemo on the top. It had to be two tier but the rest was up to us. I LOVE it when clients allow us to use out imagination on the cakes.

My business partner made the Nemo and Dory which are just the cutest things in the world. I did the rest of the cake and fondant work.

Everything on this cake is edible. The top tier is chocolate and the bottom tier is vanilla. Those two cake flavours tend to the most popular for children's birthdays.

Super Hero Cake

A friend of mine who has been a huge supporter of my cakes and cake business, came to me with an idea for a for a super hero cake. I had fun with this cake along with some challenges.

I am a huge comic movie fan I have seen pretty much all of them. The challenge I had with this cake was getting the icing red I ended up having to use my air brush gun to spray it red.

All in all the cake turned out looking pretty good. My favourite is the Wolverine tier.

graduation cake: Not my best work

I was asked to make a graduation cake. It ended up not being my best work at all and well as all my blog readers know I am a tad bit of a perfectionist.

Both Tiers are vanilla, the hat is not edible.

Browning Cake

I was given a challenge by one of my regular cake client's husband. He said I bet you can't do the browning symbol on a camo cake. I took up this challenge without even knowing what a browning symbol was lol.

I think the cake turned out very well. This cake is chocolate covered in fondant. The browning symbol is made out of icing.

Picture Cake

This was one the first cakes I made while my arm was in a cast. I am glad it was a picture cake.

Our picture cakes are printed on an edible printer that uses icing sheets and edible ink to print off family photos or pretty much any image that you want.

This cake is vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream, yes it was not my best icing work but not bad for only one arm.
