Homeschool: Term 2 Week 2 Sk

We are working in the workbook "educational workbook numbers K" I likely got this book from one of the dollarstores. We are reading a different book each day this time so it will be list under the daily activities.

We are also working on printing for this I took a highlighter and wrote out on each page the letters. I will add a photo of what I am talking about so it is easier to understand.

I could not for the life of me get Homer to work  so we are going to try to get it to work this week.

Each day this week we will be doing a game. Such as Jenga or Trouble.

Day 1:

Sight word "to" flash cards, The Penguin Chick guided science readers by scholastic, workbook, homer, walk, printing, Jenga

Day 2:

Sight word "to" work sheet, What is cold? guided science readers by scholastic, workbook, ABC mouse, walk, play group, printing, Trouble

Day 3:

Sight word matching game, Can you do this? by scholastic, workbook, Homer, walk, library, printing, Porcupine Pop

Day 4:

Sight word "to" flash cards, I am bigger by scholastic, workbook, ABC Mouse, walk, printing, Guess who

Day 5:

Sight word "to" worksheet, What am i? by scholastic, workbook, Home, walk, printing, Operation

Why add games?  Did you know along with learning how to take turns children also learn a multitude of other skills from playing board games?

Children learn through doing, so do most people, they also learn through play.

Things learnt from board games:

Critical thinking
Fine motor skills
Gross motor skills (depending on the game)
Sharing
Taking turns
Math (Counting)

And sooo much more depending on the games you are playing. Plus they are so much fun they don't even realize they are learning.

Homeschool Week4 SK

So far we are rocking it, staying on time even with everything going on between my appointments and my grandmothers triple by pass and valve replacement and of course complications after I think we are doing well with staying on task.

We are finishing up the workbook Reading Readiness book which I found at a dollar store and we will be moving onto Math Readiness which is another book that I found at our local dollar stores.

Homeschool SK: Week3

We are into our 3rd week and we have our routine pretty down pat. We can usually get everything finished within 30 mins depending on how much he dottles and what activities we are doing.

Our nature bored is going well, my drawings could use some work but I never claimed to be an artist.

This week we are using the workbook Reading Readiness Book 1, I got it from the one of the local dollar stores.

We are still down to one truck so our trips out are still limited to what is in walking distance unless I have the truck that day.

Money, Money, Money. We are learning all about money this week. Mainly the basics. I found an amazing sight for not just money but it has Canadian Money which is really hard to find educational resources and the sight is free at that!!!

As you will notice this year I am using a lot of magic school bus when it coincides with what we are learning about that week. Blaine loves to watch videos and Magic School Bus seems to hold his attention for the whole show so I will take it!

SK homeschool here we come!!!

Let me start by saying something I should have said a long time ago, I don't do school at home, I do homeschool.

There is a big difference. We do not have the same start time everyday, we don't have set snack or lunch breaks, we do not have forced seating or activities. We have things we do everyday and then I just follow his lead for the rest.

I do an assessment each year to see where he is at and what he needs work on, but we do not follow the classroom curriculum.  This summer I got to spend a lot of time with my good friend Sara and her family. I got to see how amazing ALL of her children are, how amazing of a mom she is (even if she feels like she is failing). If a mom who has raised those amazing children can feel like she is failing that means we all can from day to day.

She kept reminding me all summer that I don't need to apologize for Blaines behaviours and that its okay she understands. You have no idea what it means to have a mom friend who has children who have are "special" and you don't have to try to force your "special" child to behave a certain way or try to hurry him along so hes not in the way or bugging others. I can relax when I am with her and not always be on edge and worried about what Blaine is going to do next or how he might react. He has a special bond with Sara and it melts my heart and I am grateful that he has that bond with her.

Anyway on to school this year. We are not doing what we did last year, we are covering a wide range of topics as you will see lol. When planing Sara thought it was funny that I went from body parts to money there is no real reasoning to my planning other than doing a few different topics and seeing what will spark his interest. As he grows, learns and becomes more interested in things I can cater to those but right now he is just happy with whatever.

Some people are shocked to learn that most days we are finished "School" by 830am. This is because he is so young we don't have to do much seat learning, everything is play and hands on at this point. That being said as he grows somethings may be longer but maybe not depending on his interests. Will he learn to read? write? hold a pencil? spell? do math? you bet he will but why do those things have to be taught in a way that requires the child to sit in a seat for hours taking in verbal information?
OH WAIT IT DOESN'T. We learn by doing not by being told!

So this is our first week and so far we have done 2 days and things are going well, yes it takes a min to get him going but that's okay, he knows when there is an end! He can see when we are done!

Week 1
We are working in the Reading Readiness K-1 by the company I KNOW IT. (I likely got this at one of our local dollar stores.)

Last month we did the thankful tree which turned out amazing if it would have just stayed on the freaking all. This month we are going ALL ABOUT ME! this mean he has to come up with things about him such as likes, dislikes, physical features, strengths and weakness, etc. It should be a lot of fun!

Week 7: The grand Desgin

Coming up with new and creative ways to title my home school posts is actually kind of fun!!

Week 7 is going to be a relaxed week because I need to get things organized for a recuse fundraising event and there are a few things that a fellow homeschooler and I were discussing that we would like to see offered in our area so I am going to see about planning some of that.

We only have 1 page left in our Usborne Get ready for school first numbers sticker book so we will be moving onto a new workbook My first book of A,B,C, Letter. I got this book from Dollar tree.
We are still using the Morning Starters book, which I also got from Dollar Tree. This week is an exciting week we are going to start doing science experiments using the The Usborne BIG book of Experiments! I got this book from Value Village. I am normally not a huge fan of that store but their books are a great price!!!

What really happened in week 3

We got through all the worksheets I had planned out and every outing we did was amazing. I have had ABC Mouse  since he was about 2.5 he never really had an interest in it until about 6 months ago. This week I decided to add it to our home school work, this means instead of taking 15-30 mins to do school work it take about an hour because we do an ABC Mouse activity between each of the planned worksheet or activity. Doing this keeps his attention longer!!!

He had a ton of fun gluing to paper so we will be adding more of those as well go along. His tracing has come a long way its crazy! Still not picking a dominate hand makes things a little harder when helping him write. Sight word "THE" seems to be causing us a little bit of trouble which sucks but we will keep working at even with moving onto the next sight word.

This week was packed full of fun learning things to do as well. Tumble time at bluewater cheer was amazing, the instructor has the patience of a saint with the little ones whose attention span is that of a wet noodle. He had a blast it also helped that the other kids in the class are home schooled as well! He talked all week about how he followed the course and went over and under the things. I am just happy he didn't hide under my chair the whole time.

It rained Tuesday so the hike at rock glen was canceled.

Thursday we had Zekvelds with farmer John for pick and learn. It was amazing! Farmer John was so patience and kind with the children and very engaging! The kids learned a lot and I know I learned something new so I am sure the other home school parents did to! Blaine picked about 6 apples for our bag and we each got to eat one for free. He ate the whole apple skin and all (surprise). After we were all done at the apples we moved onto the pumpkin patch where farmer John taught us about pumpkins and even carved a face in one for the kids it was great, they loved it. Then the kids all got to pick out a small pumpkin to take home. He had a blast!!!

Like most Fridays we had the home school parent chat and play, thankfully it wasn't raining this week and we were able to meet at the park. It is great for the kids to get outdoors and play with each other and also for the parents to chat!

Sipkens put on their Fall Harvest Festival on Saturday all free activities for the kids. It was a lot of fun and things to see and do. I had never been in Sipkens before and WOW it is stunning in there, the staff are amazing and were great with the kids. Blaine loved the fish pond and seeing all the flowers and such inside. They had a mini petting zoo, make and take centre piece, colouring pages, information session, find the scarecrows and lots more.

All in all it was a busy week but we got almost everything I wanted done. We didn't go to skating or yoga this week but with so much going on its hard to fit everything in!
