50 Birthday Cake

This was an order for a simple birthday cake with 50 edible candles on it. The flame of the candles is made out of sour candy tears. The cake is half vanilla, half chocolate with vanilla buttercream and fondant candles.

I learned something very important doing this cake and I now do my half and half cakes completely different!

This cake cracked down the middle where the half and half met. I now make my half and half in the same pan so there is no more cracking.

Keira's 8th birthday

I LOVE hosting the kids parties they are so much fun. This year Keira decided she wanted to have her party at the YMCA. The kids had a blast, I wasn't overly happy with the rushed feeling in the party room. I felt like the whole time I was hurrying the kids along, but it was a lot better than her party at Hi-Way Bowl last year.

The employees who were in the gym with the kids were awesome even was playing and chasing them.

Keira had a great time other than he was upset she didn't get a treat bag, I tried explaining they were thank you bags for the guest for coming to her party and giving her gifts, she didn't get it.

She picked once again Hello Kitty, my first thought was great same theme as last year what on earth am I going to do for a cake. I came up with something very simple. The top tier was chocolate, bottom was vanilla with edible images and fondant decals. I wasn't a huge fan on the way the cake turned out but all the kids enjoyed it, well not Keira as she doesn't like cake and didn't try any lol.

We spent an hour in the gym and 45 mins in the party room. We had pizza, cake and opened presents.

Duck Dynasty Cake

When I was first asked to make this cake I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make the people. I am not very good at making people let.

This cake has a lot of different features to it. The top tier is vanilla the bottom is chocolate. This cake has butter cream icing, fondant decals, chocolate decals and an edible image.

The people ended up turning out okay and it was loved by the birthday people!

Rescuing BEBE

I got an email from Susan at the Wallaceburg animal shelter that there was a female pit bull that needed rescue in Dresden. I spoke to the "owners" and went right away to get her.

This poor girl was in horrid condition from living in an out door kennel, the "owner" said she was never used for breeding but you could tell right away that she had been.

I picked her up and put her in the back of the car with me, the "Owner" says to me "oh I thought you would have brought a truck or something, she stinks why are you going to put her in the car." I had blankets set up on the back of the car to keep her warm and keep her wounds from oozing onto the seat. She was so thankful to be in the nice warm car she laid her head down on my lap and relaxed right away.

She was moved into a foster home with no other dogs. I took care of her wounds right away and save her food and water. She was not overly under weight but wasn't great either.

Bebe is about 10 years old and the "owner" said she lived in an out door kennel for at least two years with limited human contact.  She had a large chain around her neck.

She knows sit, down, stay, come and is fully house trained! Bebe is such a love bug she wants to be right with at all times and is a total bed hog. Most of her teeth were rotten and she only has shards of her front teeth left so she can't chew anything hard, but she loves her soft chews. She has ear mites and I think shes partly deaf.

Update: "Bebe" now known as lil momma went to the vet her mouth was full of infection, she had frost bite, she has five teeth removed and has lumps and bumps all in my mammary glands that I need a tummy tuck. Even with all the pain she was in while she was here she was the most lovable dog in the world!!! Poor baby girl, I am so glad she is in the loving hands of an amazing rescue and getting the proper care she needs!!

She has had her surgeries and is now fully cancer free. The poor girl was in so much pain but is now healing well and doing great in her foster home.  Bebe will be available for adoption in Ontario at the end of March.

Bebe in her hell

In her temp foster home poor swollen mouth :(

Wounds all over her legs, and her poor nipples

In foster home in Ottawa, loving life!
Everyone says she is lucky I was able to rescue her and find her a rescue to take her and give her the medical attention she sorely needed, but I am the lucky one, she is such a loving spirit even with what she has been through, I was the lucky one to be apart of her journey.

One Direction Cake

It took me forever to figure what the carrot had to with One Direction, if anything at all. Turns out one of the bands members favourite food is carrots, he announced this to his fans and then started to get hundreds of bags of carrots in the mail from fans. He finally had to request that his fans stop sending them.

The top tier of this cake is Butterscotch and the bottom tier is vanilla. The fame on top of the cake is a big sugar cookie with an edible image of the band on it.

The cake is iced with our homemade butter cream icing and has fondant decals.

DIY key holder

I seen these on Etsy and they sell them for about $15.00 each. I found a link on Pinterest to make your own for about $4.00.

This is super simple and I got everything I needed at the dollarstore and Wal-mart, now I wouldn't hang anything heavy on it but it works great for keys.

I made mine about a year ago and it is still hanging up at the front door.

What you need:

A wooden frame (I got mine at Dollarama)
Staple gun
Fabric (I got mine at Wal-mart in the scrap area)
Fabric glue
Half hooks (As seen in the picture below)

Wrap your fabric right around your frame. I cut slits in the corners and folded the fabric in on itself. I glued the fabric to the corners.
Once I had all the corners glued I stapled the fabric in the middle of each side to assure it wont come apart.

Take your hooks and screw them into the bottom of the frame through the fabric.

I used five hooks equal spaced apart

 Hang it on the wall

Super simple and I love it!

Pregnancy Number 4

Scared is the first word that comes to mind with this pregnancy for multiple reasons.

Anyone who follows my blog knows about my son Owen and that I had an adoption plan in place before I had him. I picked an amazing family for him and he has grown into the most amazing, loving and caring child ever.

About 2 years ago I had two miscarriages. One was at 8 weeks and one was at 16 weeks. The one at 8 weeks was difficult but not where nears as hard as the one at 16 weeks. Richards mother had just committed suicide, he was back out west working and I ended up having to have a DNC. The baby stopped developing at about 9 weeks but my body hung on to the baby until 16 weeks.

With my first pregnancy I was very worried about how Owen would feel about me having a new baby, if he would feel like this child is in someway better then him because I kept it and not him. No way is any child/children I have better than Owen, I was at a time in my life when things were not okay to bring a child into it. It was not by any means an easy decision and its still not today.

This time I ready to answer any questions that Owen might have even though the fear that he will hate me is still strong in my mind, my fear this time was losing another child to miscarriage. I waited until I was about 8 weeks before I told my family and I did through Christmas cards. I wrote in each one a cute rhyme. One said jingle bells jingle bells oh what fine it is to announce a baby's on the way.

After that I still held off until my 12 week ultrasound to tell a few more people. I am now not keeping it a secret, I am in my 18th week but still scared.

I have decided not to post too much about the pregnancy on my facebook as I have a women on my facebook who lost her son at 26 weeks along :( I know how I felt seeing or being around other pregnant people and there is no way I can intentional do that to someone else.

My first trimester wasn't too bad I had night sickness, some food aversions and dead tired all the time but it was nothing compared to with Owen.

I am now in my second trimester and its okay so different from with Owen I am showing a lot sooner and don't have the high energy levels I did with him.

I am due Aug 8, 2014 but because I have to have a c-section I will deliver a week or so before.

Duck Dynasty Edible Image Cake

This was a simple last minute order cake.

The cake is half chocolate, half vanilla with an edible image on the top.

DIY: Clean baked on cookie sheets

My cookie sheets are well used and well loved but no matter how often I clean or what I do to clean they never look like they did when I first bought them of so many years ago. I came across this pin and thought I would give ti a shot.

I am not overly impressed with how well this didn't work. I think for the amount of scrubbing, baking soda and peroxide it took it should have come out better then did it.

Put about 1/4 cup of baking soda in a small glass bowl and squirt in hydrogen peroxide until it makes a nice paste. Then you rub it on the offending dirt/stain/grease.  Now scrub.  If it doesn’t come off in round one try letting it sit on the stain for an hour then have at it.  Your pan should be sparkling in no time.
